Keesh or "Keeshy Boy" adopted June 11, 1993- left for rainbow bridge June 9, 2005
Keesh was rescued from a Washoe County (Nevada) Shelter in June 1993. Keesh was such a loved member of our family. He was a fluff ball of joy who could bring a smile to anyone's face. Keesh use to sit next to the dinner table while we were eating and rock back and forth on his bottom and talk, talk, talk... it wasn't a cry, yelp or whine, he was actually talking... Oh, my goodness, it was so silly and still brings a smile to my face. Keesh has blessed our family with many years filled with joyful memories and he is greatly missed. ~The Parry Family
Benny or "Bennard" November 1, 1991 to July 26, 1999
Was adopted November 1, 1995 at PetsMart from the Washoe County animal control. I believe it was a Sunday afternoon when we saw this wonderful young man sitting in a cage. I started crying after one of the volunteers explained to my husband and I that the animals that are currently here will be euthanized on Monday if they aren't adopted today. We went and did out shopping next door (of course I was still crying) so we went back into PetsMart to see if he was still there and sure enough he was. It took about 30 seconds to find a volunteer, fill our paperwork, pay them and we had a new member to our family. We were told that Benny was an English Cocker Spaniel by many of the professionals. After about three months with him and lots of research we learned that Benny was not a cocker, but a Clumber Spaniel. We felt so bad we had this poor guy on a diet as we were told no Cocker should weigh 65 pounds...low and behold a Clumber Spaniel should weigh in around 65 pounds. Benny was the best most well trained dog we had ever seen. He knew every command possible. He wouldn't even dare think of getting on any of the furniture...It took us about three weeks of working with him to show him that it was okay to be on the furniture in our house...He loved the water bed. My husband, myself and other dog at the time we privileged to be able to sleep with Benny in his water bed. Benny was such a funny dog, he always made everyone smile. Most people have never heard of a Clumber Spaniel let alone seen one so with their square heads, droopy eyes and stocky bodies they can look a little silly. Even just walking down the street...if it were too hot by Benny's standards he would stop on the side of the road where there was a patch of snow and lay down with all four paws out like he was going to commando crawl. Once he was cooled off he would get up and continue his walk. We were able to learn quickly why Benny's last family dumped him. Benny had chronic ear infections. Benny's ears were in some much pain that if you tried to pet him anywhere near his ears he would snap at you. We were able to get Benny's ear to a manageable state for a long time. While we had Benny for four short years we battled his ear infections with the best medicine, doctors and all the love in the world. Benny brought so much to our family. Benny may have been a heavier dog, but he always wanted to be in your lap, he just couldn't get close enough. We were truly blessed to have adopted Benny and we hope that Benny feels the same about us. Benny it has been many years since we have seen you, but we think and talk about you often. We will see you again with all your sisters and brother at Rainbow Bridge, until then we love you Benny.
